Adopt me!

Hey! If you're on this webpage, you're probably at least thinking about what could possibly lead a person like me to want to get adopted—and maybe, just maybe, there's an idea sneaking into the back of your mind that perhaps having a kid around in your house won't be the worst thing after all! Either way, read on and find out.

Frequently asked questions

General

Why would you like to get adopted?
I recently learned that having parents and being part of a family can be a wonderful thing.
How old are you? What's your gender?
I'm female, and I'm apparently already in my early twenties. Somehow. Don't ask me how.
Would I skip the process of raising a teen and have a grown kid day one?
No, you just get to raise a slightly bigger teen.

About me

What are your hobbies and interests?
I like learning about new things, walking around the city, reading books (especially fiction), riding transit, watching TV shows, geeking about the law and goofing around!
What is your political affiliation?
I'm rather progressive and consider myself a liberal.
What are you up to at the moment?
I'm employed and in school doing my dream undergraduate degree in engineering.

Logistics

Where would we live?
If you already have a place:
  • A spare room is an option.
  • So is undertaking renovations to create a room—I am happy to fund this.
If you don't already have a place, we can look for one together, or if you prefer, I can get us one.
Would I need to financially support you?
No, and I'm happy to contribute financially.
Would I need to legally adopt you?
This is a good long-term goal to have, but it doesn't have to be an immediate priority. Living together in a parent-child relationship is more important than legal recognition.

Parenting

How did you get the idea of having parents?
I read a bunch of books on parenting teens to try and figure out what went wrong. Eventually I came to the conclusion that I need parents and decided it isn't too late to find parents.
Do you have thoughts on parenting?
Given my prior experience with my biological parents as well as the amount of parenting materials I've read (TPL and YouTube probably think I'm a parent myself) I certainly do, but I don't want to be my own parent and in a similar vein I don't want to tell you how to parent me. I might ask you a few questions about your parenting philosophy, but that's mostly it. If you insist, gentle authoritative parenting is a good start.
Would you recommend any parenting resources?
Yes! Go check out Dr. Cam (@parentingteenswithdrcam) and Laura (@foster.parents) on YouTube.
